Japanese forensic phonetics: non-contemporaneous within-speaker variation in natural and read-out speech

چکیده

This paper aims to explore non-contemporaneous withinspeaker variation of a Japanese male speaker, focusing on the difference between speech styles, viz.. natural speech and read-out speech. Recordings under forensic conditions are mostly of natural speech. A suspect’s recording to be compared are, however, sometimes read-out speech, but not natural speech, in order to obtain the similar phonological conditions to the original criminal speech. This paper aims to examine the validity of such a procedure.

Use of Likelihood Ratio and Bayesian Approach in Forensic Speaker Identification

This paper presents the preliminary investigation on to what extent it is possible to perform forensic speaker identification under three important conditions of realism: 1) With forensically realistic data i.e. natural and non-contemporaneous speech; 2) With ‘traditional’ (i.e. non-automatic) acoustic parameters (formant centre-frequency); 3) With a Bayesian Likelihood Ratio (LR) approach. In ...

Relationship between acoustic measures and speech naturalness ratings in Parkinson's disease: A within-speaker approach.

This study investigated the acoustic basis of across-utterance, within-speaker variation in speech naturalness for four speakers with dysarthria secondary to Parkinson's disease (PD). Speakers read sentences and produced spontaneous speech. Acoustic measures of fundamental frequency, phrase-final syllable lengthening, intensity and speech rate were obtained. A group of listeners judged speech n...

Variation in Long-Term Fundamental Frequency: Measurements From Vocalic Segments in Twins’ Speech

This paper is a preliminary analysis of suprasegmental aspects of twins’ speech. The focus of analysis is variation in long-term fundamental frequency, and reference measurements are presented for read and spontaneous speech, across non-contemporaneous samples. Measurements are discussed across the group of speakers, between twin pairs, and within individual speakers. Results show that speakers...

A forensic phonetic investigation into non-contemporaneous variation in the f-pattern of similar-sounding speakers

A Forensic Phonetic experiment is described which investigates the nature of non-contemporaneous withinspeaker variation in the F-pattern of intonationally different repeats of the same word hello said by 6 speakers in recordings separated by at least a year. Within-speaker variation is quantified by ANOVA on differences and SchefliYs F for ccntre frequencies of the first 4 formants at 7 well-d...

Spectral Slope Parameters and Detection of Word Stress

Phonetic research in the past decades has exerted a great effort to describe the principles of relative prominence in speech. The importance of this issue is felt in many areas of both pure and applied phonetics spilling over to the fields of speech technology, where prominence can help to disambiguate words in recognition tasks or make synthesized speech more natural, convincing and unequivoca...
